Description | A general introduction to the visual arts designed to create an appreciation of the vocabulary, media, techniques, and purposes of the creative process. Students will critically interpret and evaluate works of art (painting, sculpture, architecture) within formal, cultural, and historical contexts. | ||||||||||

The student will be able to: 1. PSLO ALPHA: Reading skills - Demonstrates comprehension of content-area reading material. Uses creative thinking, innovation, inquiry and analysis, evaluation and synthesis of information. Creatively identifies problem, argument, or issue (to determine extent of information needed); differentiates the facts from opinions as relates to situation; constructs possible solutions or prediction or consequences; uses logical, sound reasoning to justify conclusion. PSLO 2: Communication Skills ? Demonstrates effective development, interpretation and expression of ideas through written, oral and/or visual communication. Expresses a strong thesis; organizes information with effective transitions & sequencing of ideas; uses substantial, logical & specific development of ideas; details are relevant, original, credible and correctly documented when appropriate to show an effective development and interpretation of ideas; and presents ideas in appropriate mode of expression for the task. PSLO 5: Social Responsibility Skills - Expresses intercultural competence, knowledge of civic responsibility, and the ability to engage effectively in regional, national, and global communities. Identifies cultural characteristics (including beliefs, values, perspectives and/or practices); demonstrates knowledge of civic responsibility; provides evidence of experience in civic- engagement activities; and describes what she/ he has learned as it relates to a reinforced and clarified sense of civic identity in local, regional, national, or global communities; and shows awareness of one?s own culture in relation to others. Attendance Policy |
Research has shown a cause and effect relationship between attendance and college success. Students are required to attend/participate in the class. Unless it's a major emergency I will not reset assignments. Not turning in the Essay assignment will result in failure of the class. Plagiarism is unacceptable in a college environment and penalties will be assessed. 100% plagiarism on any item will result in failure of the class. Attendance Policy - You will start with 100 points. For every assignment you miss, or, are late on I will deduct 5 points. Example - if you missed 3 assignments I would deduct 15 points and your attendance grade would be 85. After 7 unexcused absences your final grade for the class will be an F. Set any personal appointments before or after class. Make sure and read and understand the Syllabus for classroom attendance policy. |
